The black art that is samba

I give up. I simply cannot get samba working. I figure that there are enough gees reading this that at least one of them must be able to fix this for me.

My smb.conf file (which is something of a mess, I think) can be found at http://drusilla.22cr.org.uk/smb.conf -- this is a symlink to /etc/samba/smb.conf.

When I look in network neighbourhood My network places from windows, the box shows up as on the network, but when i ty to select it yields the error message "The account is not authorised to log in from this station".

Oddly, I have server string set, but windows is showing this as something entirely different, and looking suspiciously like a default ("$box-name server (samba $version)") which makes me wonder if smbd is paying any attention at all to smb.conf. I have sent it a sighup since putting smb.conf as it is now.

Oh yes, and I really, really don't have a clue what I'm doing.

If anyone can get this working then that would be amazingly wonderfully great.

Okay, I checked at home, cos I use security = user at home
Bare bones smb.conf with all comments and stuff removed, cos it's over 10k otherwise

[rjg@stasis samba]$ !!
more smb.conf

What I forgot was the file that did the username mappings - I've included mine below as well
I think you also need to set the password for the smb account using smbpasswd.

[rjg@stasis samba]$ more smbusers
# Unix_name = SMB_name1 SMB_name2 ...
root = administrator admin
nobody = guest pcguest smbguest
rjg = rjg
[rjg@stasis samba]$
