General life update (oh what an imaginative subject)

I swear that I have absolutely nothing worthwhile to write about in this journal any more. I'm sure I used to have much more to talk about. Either that or I've become a whole lot less waffly and only talk when I actually have something worth saying now, but I don't think that that's very likely really.

So what's been going on in my life recently? Well, for starters I've managed to get somewhat sucked into the murky world of Harry Potter fanfic. I got sufficiently inspired by one of the new characters that I actually wrote fanfic for the first time in my life (horrible Tweenies slash doesn't count). For anyone who cares, there are two piddly short stories, one of which apparently doesn't suck (the other of which does). Only time will tell whether I actually write anything more or not.

I was thinking I ought to host the sites on my own site instead or as well as at fiction alley. Except that my website needs a complete renovation, from the bottom upwards. What I think I really want is a nice sort of glorified file repository, where I can just upload the files, and give them some meta data and let some nifty scripts keep track of everything else for me.

It occurs to me, though, that there isn't really all that much point doing that sort of stuff right now, because willow (the main server for our house, where the current incarnation of my website is hosted) is going to be going down for a while in four weeks time when we move house. Finally, i escape from Canterbury. Yes, I am going back to my parents' which isn't exactly any better, but that won't be for too long. I'm ot panicing at all about moving yet. i wonder if i should be. In the next four weeks, as well as the obvious like "putting things into boxes" I need to figure out where around here we can hire a van from, and go and see my GP. I need this both so I can get a repeat prescription for my pills, hopefully for long enough to last until I'm off at uni, and also to see if I can get a piece of paper saying "I do solemny swear that she really is screwed in the head" in the hope of getting DSA (disabled student allowance) which would be Nice.

I'm hoping that by the time I'm moved I'll also have offers from universities, so I'll know where and when I'm going to be going. That will allow me to plan where I'm going to go and who I'm going to visit over the summer. Because if there's one thing that I know for certain it's that spending 2 months at my parents' without getting out at all will drive me completely potty.

But yes, life is, by and large, proceeding fairly well.

Me! Me! come visit me! I moved into the same country, so it'll be more convenient for you :o)

I hear prices for transatlantic flights are relatively cheap right now... ;)

I.. would ask for visit.. but, Scotland is terrible to visit, and I have no idea when I'll be leaving it and going back to the place of proper english speach. Hopefully *before* september, but I don't know, because the post office ppl suck. and I mean that in a bad way.

That sounds like a pretty spot-on description of Blosxom, which a couple of my cow-orkers have been raving about (but I haven't got round to trying yet).

Dave's tried it, and I was going to have a go but got, er, sidetracked...

Apparently it's pretty cool though.

Cheers. I'll check it out.

I dig the stories :).

(And, yes, I agree, the first one is better).

((Luna cool...))
