A small, glossy leaflet arrived in my letterbox today, and I felt that I just had to share it with you all. I offer it without commentary, because it really doesn't need any. The only thing I shall say, to those foreigners reading this, is that Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen is famous as the interior designer and presenter of TV show Changing Rooms, and is generally known for being extremely camp and frequently rather naff.

Here's the text of the main page of the leaflet:

You are invited to view

The age of elegance

An exclusive exhibition of stunning new artwork by

LAURENCE LLEWELYN-BOWEN

The UK's premier celebrity artist and designer

Laurence's uniquepersonal approach fuses contemporary minimalism with the extravagance of times gone by, and his enormous popularity has established him as an arbiter of taste for the British public.

Running throughout March 2005 with special Preview Days on 5th and 6th March

We look forward to welcoming you to the gallery

(though with more typesetting and fancy fonts)

Then on another page, filled with a picture of the man himself:

Every image in this distinguished collection has been personally signed by Laurence, thus ensuring its status as a highly desirable collectors' item.

Furthermore, each edition is strictly limited to 495 copies worldwide, offering a high degree of exclusivity to the discerning collector.

Like I said, I really don't think this needs any words.

defining "samp" would be nice, too. ;-)

"samp" should be "camp", possibly?

And "naff", for that matter....

Naff, adj. (Chiefly British slang):
Unstylish, clichéd, or outmoded.
</Brit>... wait, I don't need to close that tag.

Yep, that should have said "camp". I never claimed to be able to tpye.

I used to watch changing rooms and he actually painted something once. He's a better artist than he is a designer, I don't remember it containing any leopard print or anything anyway.

Apparently he's quite a well respected painter... Dunno how he got into the design lark cos he's terrible at it. Stick to painting tasteful things...

His paintings are worth several hundred thousand each now..

Yes, but will Diarmuid be there?

The most puzzling thing to me is that the limit is 495 copies. Why such an odd number, when it could easily have been the beautifully rounded 500? Is there some magical line between 495 and 496 that makes a piece of art worth significantly less if there are 496 copies?

I am introducing myself after seeing your post on asperger. I'm a member of that community and I'm also a friend of conuly, as I see you are too. I've read over your last few entries and I found them interesting and I like your sense of humour, so I have added you to my friends list.

Hi, and welcome. I've added you to my list as well. I'm not really sure whether I'll kepp you there or not, as I try to keep a small friendslist most of the time. So just advance warning that if I do remove you the it's nothing personal, and you'd still be perfectly welcome here.
