It has been brought to my attention that several people are unfamiliar with the law of fives. This was originally reported to the world at large on page 16 of the Principia Discordia.

This law states that everything is in some way connected to the number 5 and it is

*never wrong*.

Let us take a few examples:

Hail Eris! -- "Hail " is 5 characters, and "Eris!" is also 5 characters long. As this has 2 references to 5s, this is clearly a very potent phrase.

47 -- if you sum number of digits there (2) with the difference between those digits (3) you get 5.

rho -- in ascii this is 114, 104, 111 -- if you sum all these digits, you get 14. If you sum the digits of 14, you get 5.

As you can see, everything is connected to 5, and the closer you look, the more this law will manifest itself.

And of course, as everything is actually connected to the number 5, there really is no point at all in looking for ocurences of other numbers.

timwiOf coursethere is a point in looking for occurrances of other numbers. Of course everything is related to 5 in some way (everyone knows that), so there no point looking for it because we alrealy know there will be. 47, on the other hand, is the quintessential random number - emphasis on bothquintessentialandrandom, as well as onnumber.(Anonymous)You also used two numbers ('5' and '47'). And if you add those digits - 1 + 2 (from the 12) and the 2 numbers... you get 5!

To quote the Principia: "I find the Law of Fives to be more and more manifest the harder I look."
