On learning to love OSX
delirium happy
And this is the wonder of OSX. Yesterday, put in a DVD. It plays. Without having to do anything or install anything, or fiddle with anything. It Just Works. Finish watching the DVD, and do some (very elementarily basic) perl hacking. Which also don't require any effort or faffing. It Just Works. This is something I could get used to.

Mmm, OSX...

I can't upgrade until I get some more memory installed on my Mac, but I like to swoon over the thought that some day, It Shall Be Mine.

Glad you're having fun. :)

Mmm... OSX.

It took me a couple of weeks to get used to when I started using it two (?) years ago, but then I fell in love...

Here is what made me smile and laugh about OSX yesterday:

My friend junglemonkee had told me the hardest 6 hours with her iPod was waiting for it to charge-- it was agony, because she wanted to play with her new toy so much. Anyway, I get home, figure the first thing I'll need to do is charge. I unbox the iPod and open the manual. I read the instructions (yes, I know-- geek, but also a tech writing geek, so I like to read manuals).

"Step One: Charge the Battery..." and then instructions for plugging it in and charging it, using the AC adapter, including a note:
"Note: If you are using your iPod with a Mac, you can skip Step One...." Because, apparently, the iPod will charge off of the Mac's firewire connection.

Hee hee hee hee hee hee hee..... I love it. Instant gratification.

Not found the sucky bits yet then? ;)

Oh, I've found some of them. Like how things frequently refuse to maximise properly. That annoys me. But as we all know, every OS sucks. It's just the degrees of suckitude that count.

*drool* I still haven't managed to make a DVD play on my "new" computer (that I got in April).

/me really really really really wants an iBook
/me needs to wait until current computer is reasonably outdated before even uttering those words out loud
