One of the things I list on my LJ interests list is "trolling for goodness". Out of over 5,000,000 LJ accounts, I'm the only person who claims to be interested in that. One thing I've been pondering just recently is whether you people actually know what I mean by this. So this poll is purely for my gratification, to see how many of you do. Depending on results (and my level of arsedness) I may post my own definitions at some point in the future.

Poll #422408 trolling for goodness!

How well would you say that you understand the phrase "trolling for goodness"? (Range from 1 ("what does trolling mean?") through 3 ("well, I know the individual words so I guess I can make some sort of vague guess as to the combined meaning") and 7 ("I'm fairly certain I have a decent idea of what you mean") to 10 ("I have an intuitive feeling for the meaning of the phrase, and grok it fully"))

Based on your understanding of the phrase, is there other simple word or short phrase that you would use to describe the same idea?

"Trolling for goodness" sounds like looking for the happy news (kitten that rescued a family from a fire) in the midst of all the stories about murders, muggings and mayhem.

I hope you do post your definition, as I would be very interesting in knowing what you mean by it.

I can think of two definitions of "trolling" that might apply but am not sure which one is intended here, so that makes me more confused than simply "know[ing] the individual words".
