A couple of days ago, I had a random craving for eggs. I hadn't eaten eggs for ages, and clearly, that needed to be remedied. So yesterday, I went out to the supermarket to buy some, and today, I cooked them. In the process, I was reminded of two things, which explain why I hadn't eaten eggs for ages:

1. I am almost pathologically incapable of cooking eggs without creating a godawful mess. I'm sure I could get better if I practised, but I never do, because:
2. I don't even particularly like eggs very much.

Can someone please remind of me these two facts next time I consider buying eggs? I swear, I'd forget my head if it wasn't screwed on, etc.

The best way to make eggs? Go to your local milk-bar (bad translation from Hungarian - local restaurant that severs exclusively dairy products) and ask for whatever kind of eggs you want.

hard boiled eggs are fairly easy. or they sound easy. i think they float. or sink. they do the opposite of what they were doing before when they were raw, that is, when they're ready.

You just need to remember to tell us you have egg cravings in the future. ;)

I don't particularly like eggs much either. I have a fondness for the concept of eggs (like, for making lame jokes about things being "egg-cellent", or for thinking Easter eggs are pretty or whatever), but when it comes to actually eating them they kind of make me ill. I've discovered this is because I hate the yolks and the aftertaste that they cause. So now I buy those little cartons of liquid egg whites and use those instead of whole eggs.

I get cravings from time to time from the HRT. The most recent one was for pork pie and scotch eggs. Whilst I quite like scotch eggs (except the calories) I *hate* pork pies. However I still found myself buying three small ones and eating them. I think cravings must be your body's way of saying "we need this, and this is the quickest way to get it"

How on earth are you cooking eggs that enables you to make a godawful mess? They are all handily contained in their own wrapper and....boil, scramble, fry, there's not many ways to go wrong! I am more than a little perplexed!

Take two eggs. Break shells, and put contents thereof into bowl. Break yolk using a fork, and beat using said fork, until yolk and white are combined. Preheat a pan, with a small layer of fat/oil/butter* at the bottom. Pour eggy mixture into pan. Continue beating at it with a fork to stop it from sticking to the bottom of the pan. Fail utterly. Put a bit of egg onto a plate. Scrape off a bit more egg from the bottom of the pan onto the plate. Run lots of hot water into the pan and leave it to soak.

I suspect that my problem is that I'm cooking it for too long, but this is somewhat difficult to judge, since the time period between "not enough" and "too much" seems to be fairly small. I'm sure I could get the hang of this with practice, but see point 2.

*whatever I use, it still makes a mess

By the way, I think you're supposed to rinse frying pans with egg on them with cold water. If you use hot, it tends to cook the egg more and make it stick to the pan.

Continue beating at it with a fork to stop it from sticking to the bottom of the pan.

This is the first problem I see. Forks don't have enough surface area to move the partially-cooked egg bits around. Try a pancake turner. And if that's not a phrase you'd use, shove it in a Google image search. ;)

You may have cooked the eggs too long or too hard. I use a medium heat for scrambled eggs. Once the eggs are in the pan, don't beat them but work around the edge of the pan pulling the solidified egg into the centre, allowing liquid to take its place. Once all of the egg is solidified, it's done.

I actually find that I really hate the aftertaste of eggs, boiled or not I can't stand it so I always have to eat something after to get rid of the after taste. Though today i craved poached eggs. My first attempt. One was hard and the other was soft so I didn't do to bad. Anyone else hate egg aftertaste or am i just weird? :p
