Question: What smells like popcorn and feels like an electric shock?

Answer: Laser hair removal.

Or at least, that's my first impression of it. I've seen the feeling described in several way, from like being pricked with a needle, to like being flicked with an elastic band. To me, it felt far more like getting a little electric shock, of the sort you get when you rub your feet on a carpet to build up static and then touch something metal. and it honestly did smell of popcorn. Quite a distinctive smell, but not half as unpleasant as you'd expect from fried hair.

The woman who will be zapping me was very nice and friendly, and also seemed to be very knowledgeable, so I'm very happy with that. She was also somewhat cute, but we'll ignore that for now. Just had a consultation and test patch done today, and that seemed to go well. I have a little bit of swelling in the area she zapped me, but it's not painful or anything, and she said that it looked like what it was meant to after she did it.

First proper full appointment is on Saturday the 8th, and I am looking forward to it.

In other news, my LJ is 6 years old today. Yay. It amuses me that this anniversary happens at the end of a month when I've updated every single day, which I last did about 5 years ago. Coo.

Yeah, she definitely was zapping hairs in the test patch. She talked for a while about how part of the purpose of the test patch was to gauge my pain threshold, to help with calibrating the laser. She tried a few different frequencies, each time asking me how it felt, and also checking the patch that she'd just zapped so she could see the response it was getting. She seemed to really know what she was doing.

I was planning on taking a couple of ibuprofen before I set off, though I might now consider adding some paracetamol as well. I think I even have some codydramol stashed away somewhere, which I could resort to if needed, though I don't think I'll go that far for the first time.
